Addition to WAA home page - Members Shows/Awards

A new link has been added on the right side of the WAA homepage for members to post their awards, upcoming personal art exhibits/shows as well as acceptance into juried shows.  If you would like yours posted, send a write up and image and poster (if available) to elizhosier@gmail.com.  Personal shows should be listed no more than a month prior to the opening.   If you have questions - elizhosier@gmail.com.

WILMINGTON ART ASSOCIATION/CAMERON FALL BUS TRIP
DATE:  Tuesday, November 11th 2014
TIME:  7am at Hanover Center, Oleander Drive – behind SteinMart
COST:  $57 (not including lunch)
TO SEE:   Small Treasures: Rembrandt, Vermeer, Hals & their Contemporaries. (66 works) at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, and  Juan Miro: The Experience of Seeing. (50 works) and  Robert Rauschenberg:  Collecting & Connecting. (34 works) at Duke’s Nasher Museum of Art.
Itinerary:
Depart 7 – 7.15am
Arrive North Carolina Museum of Art 10am.  Optional Free Tour at 10.30.  The exhibit features wonderfully descriptive wall panels for each grouping of paintings.   Audio self tour $3 (not included in trip fee).
Depart NCMA  11.45am. Lunch at  Olde Raleigh Shopping Center  (multiple options or bag lunch)
Arrive Nasher  2pm.    Free tours at 2.30 for both the Miro and Rauschenberg exhibits.  Audio tour available $3.
Depart Nasher  4pm.
Arrive Wilmington, Hanover Center  7pm.
Reserve online at www.wilmingtonart.org  by October 27th.   You may also pay by check made out to Wilmington Art Association, and mailed to Ann Lees, 624 Woodland Forest Court, Wilmington, NC 28403.
The trip is open to non-members as well.

Call for Artists

The 33th Annual Juried Spring Art Show & Sale - Poster Art Contest
The 2015 Spring Show Committee announces the Poster Art Contest for the 33st Annual Juried Art Show & Sale (Show).  The winning artwork will be featured on:  a framed poster to be auctioned off at the Show; posters available for sale at the Show; smaller posters, cards, and invitations; and other publicity material for the Show.   
Entry requirements
·       Current membership (2014) in the WAA
·       Artwork in any 2-D media and on any non-offensive subject
·       *New Submission Option High quality resolution images of 3-D work.
·       One piece of artwork per artist
Submission requirements
·       Entry must be emailed to bcarter.art@outlook.com.  Your entry should include artwork in .jpg format as well as artist’s name, address, phone number and email address.
·       Signature on the artwork must be blocked.
·       Submittal of entries opens October 1, 2014
·       Deadline to receive entries is midnight, Saturday, November 29, 2014.
Selection
The Show committee will select the winning artwork on Monday, December 01, 2014.   The winner will be contacted immediately and announced on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at the WAA Holiday Banquet.  
Selected Artwork

 The selected artwork may not be entered into the Show.  The artwork will be displayed at the Show and may be offered for sale; however, it is not required to be for sale.  If the artwork is sold either prior to or during the Show, the standard 30% commission will be due WAA.   A framed poster will be on display and auctioned off at the Show with proceeds to benefit WAA. The artist will be asked to sign posters during the Show reception on Thursday, April  9, 2015.   All proceeds from poster sales will benefit WAA. 



WHAT:  Exhibit of new abstract paintings by award winning artist Steve Logan


WHERE: The Martini Bar of Caprice Bistro,10 Market Street, Wilmington, NC.


WHEN: November 9 through December


Come see the paintings and meet the artist at a reception on Wednesday, November 12, beginning at 5 p.m.


                   Caprice Bistro presents a new exhibit of abstract paintings by Wilmington Art Association member, Steve Logan. The exhibit runs November 9 through the end of December.  More than twenty new paintings will be on exhibit and available for purchase.


Logan claims to have begun “painting for stress relief nearly twenty years ago.” Although he says that most of what he knows he, “. . . learned by correcting [his] mistakes,” he also studied at the Atlanta Art Institute (now SCAD Atlanta) and with private instructors. Today his work is found in private collections throughout the U.S. and in Europe.


Come see the paintings and meet the artist at a reception on Wednesday, November 12, beginning at 5 p.m.
